The conversion of an old electrical substation into a compact café has been executed with a minimalist approach that respects the building’s original character. The façade retains the structure’s historical features and signage, with modern additions of a glass entry door and a large side wall opening featuring a foldable window that connects the interior with the courtyard.
This new window serves a dual purpose as a communal bar table, providing seating inside and out. The interior finish is understated, with the existing brick walls simply painted and the old concrete floor preserved. Timber is introduced for bench and table tops, adding a natural touch to the café’s simple and functional aesthetic.
