Birmingham Street in Alexandria boasts an 80-meter-long architectural marvel, a refurbished complex of warehouse buildings that stand as the Sonoma Bakery Headquarters housing bakery facilities, offices, and a cafe.
In order to accommodate the diverse functions within the complex, it has been strategically divided into two main sections. The dough mixing and shaping area have been equipped with a flat coolroom panel ceiling, optimising the climate control system's efficiency. This design choice enhances operational performance. In stark contrast, the baking area makes use of the full height of the roof, efficiently expelling heat through the roof. Skylights adorn this place, introducing natural light and fostering an inviting atmosphere.
The pre-existing mezzanine level has undergone a comprehensive upgrade to serve as the hub for management, accounting, and directorial offices. This decision not only maxmises available space but also creates a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetics.
Preserving the original charm of the building has been a key focus throughout the project. Existing features such as steel trusses and brick walls have been deliberately left exposed, seamlessly integrating the industrial history of the structure with its contemporary purpose. This commitment to maintaining the building's character contributes to the unique identity of the Sonoma Headquarters, making it a standout presence on Birmingham Street.
